Nuit blanche 2018
For this year’s edition of Nuit blanche à Montréal, DHC/ART Education has commissioned interdisciplinary creation company projets hybris to stage thegiftsofthegifted, a performative and interactive intervention in response to the exhibitions L’OFFRE and Bill Viola: Naissance à rebours, presented at DHC/ART until March 11. These exhibitions will also be accessible from 7 PM to midnight for the Nuit blanche.
For the occasion, DHC/ART’s Education room (465 St-Jean Street, basement level) will be transformed into a performance space modulated by the exchanges between projets hybris and the public. Throughout the evening, the audience’s participation will have an impact on the performers’ gestures. Materials and objects will be fiddled with, deconstructed, assembled; fragments of conversations will be noted and transformed. Senses will change, bodies will tire, ideas will accumulate… A playful and stimulating proposal, thegiftsofthegifted explores various themes such as the artist’s labor.
thegiftsofthegifted is part of Dissections, a series of interdisciplinary events organized by DHC/ART Education. The invitation to projets hybris comes with a desire to blend multiple artistic forms. Dissections wishes to multiply and diversify discourses around the works exhibited at the Foundation in order to further the dialogue with our public.
projets hybris is an interdisciplinary creation company based in Montreal. Political, its work is animated by queer and feminist practices and theories. At the intersection of many disciplinary fields, projets hybris is first and foremost a collaborating body that operates in the uncertainty of meetings, in the ephemera of intersections, and by celebrating the destabilization that occurs when disciplines meet. Thus, the question of margins, whether they be of art, knowledge, societies or histories, is integrated throughout the company’s projects.
projets hybris has been presenting work in Montreal since 2010. The company is known for its original creations that combine performative intensity and interdisciplinary inventiveness while highlighting political issues. Such projects include i await the devil’s coming (2017), PROPOSITIONS FOR THE AIDS MUSEUM (2014-2017), YOUNGNESSE (2016) and ORPHÉE REVOLVER (2010-2012). These have been presented as part of OFFTA, the Phenomena festival and in theatres such as La Chapelle and Aux Écuries. In 2016, projets hybris was invited by the Galerie de l’UQAM to participate in the collective exhibition do it Montreal. Furthermore, the company regularly takes part in collective or short-form events (Body Politic, Cabaret Tollé, Short & Sweet, Total Space Party) and in different colloquiums or publications.
MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE is one of the largest winter festivals in the world, an annual celebration of 1,300,000 festival site visits from fans experiencing the joy of Montreal wintertime through a unique program combining performing arts, gastronomy, free outdoor family activities, and a full night of exquisitely original discoveries.
Nuit blanche à Montréal
Since the first Nuit blanche in Paris in 2002, the concept has spread to the four corners of the world. The idea is an inspired one: to give art and culture the chance to stay up all night, triggering discovery, astonishment, inquiry and enchantment. Montreal is proud to take part in this event for the 15th year in a row.
