DHC/ART hosts curator Karen Irvine of the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago who will offer a visually engaging presentation about approaches and new work in contemporary photography. This talk is thematically linked to and offered in conjunction to DHC/ART’s current exhibition Prenez Soin de Vous by Sophie Calle.
Biography
Karen Irvine is a prominent force in the exhibition and promotion of contemporary photography. She has organized numerous one-person exhibitions including: Tracey Baran; Scott Fortino; Shirana Shahbazi: Goftare Nik/Good Words; Anthony Goicolea; Jason Salavon; Jin Lee; Paul Shambroom: Evidence of Democracy; and Alec Soth: Sleeping by the Mississippi. Thematic group exhibitions include Audible Imagery: Sound and Photography; The Furtive Gaze, works by artists who use the camera as an instrument of surveillance; Camera/Action: Performance and Photography; and Anticipation, exploring strategies of slowness and suspense in time-based art. Irvine is the author of Assembled Works: Photographs by Dave Jordano (2003); Ann Lislegaard: ‘Eyes Wide Open,’ (The Royal Museum of Photography, Copenhagen, 2002); Anthony Goicolea (Contemporary, 2004) and Laura Letinsky: Alone, Some-where (Galerie Kusseneers, Antwerp, 2005). She is also a part time instructor of photography at Columbia College Chicago. She received her MFA in photography from FAMU, Prague
